This site is run by me, Adam Carless - hello.

The main purpose of this site is to give me somewhere to play with a CMS (Grav), act as a blog to write down anything I think might be useful to some other techie doing a similar job, and generally be a bit of a vanity site. Why? Because I'm a software techie and these days it'd be a bit odd if I didn't have some kind of online presence through which I could waffle at the world and share comical pictures without relying on some big social media site.

Although it's not really intended as an online CV, the stuff I'm writing hopefully does give some kind of impression of who I am and what I do. I also keep a Project History of all the software projects I've ever worked on - but that's largely written for the benefit of my own memory, so it's not as tidy and professionally written as a CV should be.

This site does lose me some geek-cred points as it's hosted by someone else, because letting real sysadmins do the hard work wrangling servers all day seems a great idea to me. However I do self-host a couple of websites on a Raspberry Pi Zero, on the wrong end of an ADSL connection. If you want to see what they look like and laugh at their low power, take a peek at:

The important stuff about me

Whitespace

I prefer tabs, but don't complain too much about spaces, as long as they're used consistently. No switching from 4 to 2 when lines get tight, no packing a few extras in to line up with something arbitrary, and no deliberately making life awkward. If you insist on using spaces to indent, just pick an indent width and stick to it.

Editors

Jedit used to be my preferred text editor although I'm becoming a convert to Atom and Sublime. I've been using Eclipse a lot recently just bcause it's the default for Java. In the "true editor wars" I've ended up on the VI side by accident, because it's the one we were taught first at uni. I'll try to learn Emacs at some point, honest!
